Project Scope
This Task order included the final design and PS&E Development for several 17 km of road deign for a rural highway reconstruction project. Tasks included:

  • Construction Engineering Support

  • Environmental Assessment & FONSI*
  • Parking area and campground access design
  • Riprap slope treatments
  • Private driveway access design
  • Landslide repair design

  • Traffic control planning to accommodate recreational access
  • Shoulder drains
  • MSE retaining wall design
  • Cost estimates
  • Historic (Civilian Conservation Corps) retaining wall reconstruction and preservation

The Salmon River Road project has been under construction for three years, and another Phase of its construction is scheduled to begin this year, as the Final plans were assembled in phases and schedules to accommodate funding availability. The intersection with US Highway 95 and a new bridge across the Little Salmon River is currently being constructed as part of the second construction contract from this design work. The project is in an extremely steep and geologically difficult canyon with no alternative access. The Salmon River Road is a single-lane two-way facility that requires turnouts for safe operation of large vehicles travelling in opposing directions. The project is somewhat unique with regard to this operational characteristic, and the difficult terrain constraints that heavily influenced the design.
